    Title: Dietitian

    Job Description: Place of Performance: The work to be performed under this task order will be at the 377th MDG Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) located at 1501 San Pedro Dr. SE, on Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, NM.

    Scheduled/Hours of Performance: Monday-Friday, shifts will normally be scheduled for an eight (8) hour period between 6:30am and 1730. In no instance shall the HCW provide services in excess of eight (8) hours per day or forty (40) hours per week.


    Minimum Requirements:

    Degree: Bachelor's Degree.
    Education: Graduate from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) or completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) accredited by the ACEND or completion of a post Baccalaureate degree Dietetic Internship Program of supervised practice (for a minimum of 1200 hours) accredited by ACEND.
    Registration: Possess current registration as a Registered Dietitian from the Commission of Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
    Experience: Possess three (3) years of experience in wellness, sports nutrition, or nutrition education. Should be a role model in weight, fitness and other healthy lifestyle behaviors.
    Board Certification: Board eligible Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics and must be successfully granted provider privileges by the Credentials Office and maintain privileges.
    Licensure: Current, full, active and unrestricted dietetics license or certification as requires in the task order.
    Legal Authorization to Work in the United States: HCWs performing under this contract must be a U.S. Citizen


    Core Duties

    1.) Plan and organize work of considerable difficulty and responsibility under minimal supervision.
    2.) Participate in research and performance improvement studies.
    3.) Conduct nutrition assessment/evaluation which includes nutrient intake, activity level, appetite, intake of vitamins, minerals, nutritional supplements, and other complimentary alternative medicine usage, weight history, taste changes, feeding problems, food intolerance, food-drug interactions, unhealthy diet behaviors, socioeconomic and ethnic background, documented medical history, current diagnoses and medical treatment modalities, current drug therapy, and clinical signs and symptoms of nutritional deficiencies.
    4.) Apply the basic principles of enteral and parenteral nutrition support.
    5.) Apply principles and practices of clinical dietetics and medical nutrition therapy in order to plan, develop, and independently coordinate medical nutrition therapy intervention, interdisciplinary care plans, and nutrition education activities.
    6.) Conduct studies, analysis, and document findings to evaluate staff, food, nutrition supplements/feeding or meal alternatives and therapies, supplies, equipment, and service in order to improve the efficiency of the operation.
    7.) Apply current food service systems management, principles, and practices within a healthcare environment.


    HCW duties in addition to Core Duties:

    1.) The basic principles of enteral and parenteral nutrition support are not a requirement for the 377th Medical Group.
    2.) Employ evidenced-based nutrition methods and behavior change theories to develop, coordinate, implement, market, and evaluate comprehensive primary, secondary and tertiary nutrition programs and services, as well as other related health and wellness programs, aimed at nutrition improvement, total force readiness and disease prevention/intervention for the beneficiary population.
    3.) Deliver briefings, educational sessions, seminars, and worksite wellness programs, as needed.
    4.) Regularly research, develop/acquire, and maintain materials to implement comprehensive evidence-based nutrition programs and services to meet population health priorities and beneficiary needs.
    5.) Participate in teleconferences, updates, working groups, review panels, symposiums related to nutrition education/MNT programming, management, or operations.
    6.) May be required to travel, at Government expense, to attend directed training and/or conferences.
    7.) Use a wide range of principles, practices, and procedures of the science of dietetics and behavior change theories required to plan, implement, and evaluate nutrition programs.
    8.) Employ appropriate social marketing tools to meet program goals and objectives.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field.
    Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
    Hold a Certification/License in good standing within the state of practice.
    Knowledge of state survey process and compliance with nutrition care regulations (preferred, but not required).
    Strong organizational and communication skills.
    Maintain a positive attitude and effectively communicate with building occupants, administration, and HCSG leadership to perform daily tasks.

    Participates in dietitians staff meetings and collaborates with updating and developing department policies and procedures.
    Participates, as requested, in committees relating to nutrition, food service, bioethics, performance improvement/quality assurance and department related issues.
    Prepares reports and materials to meet program and CMS requirements; including data records, notes, meeting minutes and other information.

    Implements the Nutrition Care Process to develop an individualized plan that is consistent with the patient’s cultural, social, and physiological needs, and communicates the treatment plan to patients, family members and caregivers.
    Coordinates services with other departments or outside facilities and provides information on community resources, and programs to maximize patient’s nutritional well-being.
    Serves as a resource to other healthcare providers and works with the interdisciplinary team to establish, document and update patient’s plan of care to achieve goals.
    Selects and develops educational materials and methods appropriate for individual patient and groups.
    Promotes compliance with regulatory agencies and accreditation requirements by following the institutional and departmental policies and procedures.
    Develops activities and educational programs for patients with diabetes and collaborates with the Special Diabetes Program (SDPI) to achieve goals.
    Stays abreast on diabetes care and education by maintaining a minimum of 15 CEU’s per year and submits evidence of completion to the Clinical Dietitian Manager and the Pharmacy ADCES Credentialing personnel. 
    Supports the inpatient setting by providing coverage in the absence of the inpatient dietitian and complete consults in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) according to department policies.
    Supports the inpatient Dietitian and the Nutritive Services Department by reviewing and approving patient menus and nutritional supplements on a yearly basis.
    Identifies ways to improve patients care and provides recommendations to Clinical Dietitian Manager, the Director of Nutritive Services, and related committees.
    Documents nutrition interventions in EHR in accordance with policies, procedures and regulations.
    Maintains professional competencies and proficiency through continuing education. Attends staff meetings and outside workshops.
    Participates in routine record maintenance in compliance with FDIHB, Federal and related regulatory policies.
    Reviews and develops appropriate educational materials for professional and paraprofessional staff who provide services to patients and the community.
    Collaborates with other departments in the development of nutrition group classes and programs in the outpatient and in-patient settings.
    Performs other duties as assigned.
