New Mexico Dietetics and Nutrition Licensure Updates

During the last meeting of the licensure board on December 3, 2018, the board voted to move proposed language through to the rule making hearing process.  The following two sentences are the proposed language and would be added to our licensure rules and regulations if approved:
1. Licensed Dietitians may seek privileging through their hospital/institution's medical staff.
2. Licensed Dietitians may provide nutrition care that is within their scope of practice as outlined by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
The next step in the process is to have the rule hearing.  This will be a public meeting where the board will hear and read comments from those who support or oppose the proposed language.  The board will then have to vote to approve the language (therefore adding it to our rules and regulations) or not.
The meeting will take place on Monday, October 7, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Regulation and Licensing Department, 5500 San Antonio Dr., NE, Albuquerque, NM in the Sandia Conference Room.
In addition to the above proposed changes to our rules and regulations, we are preparing for our licensure practice act to sunset.  During this process the NM Legislative Finance Committee will hold a public hearing to hear comments on our licensure act, and then vote on whether to recommend the act (i.e our licensure) be continued or terminated.  This process will likely begin with the public hearing in the fall of 2020, and the final vote will be during the 2021 legislative session.
