Registered Dietitian - South Carolina

Job Description: The Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina has an opening for a part-time, Spanish-speaking, RD/LD in the Diet Assessment Research Unit (DARU) to conduct 24-hour dietary recall interviews in Spanish by phone. This position is part of a research grant to examine the impact of community gardening on dietary intake and physical activity. This is a perfect position for someone who has dropped out of the full-time work force, and wants to remain active in the field. The interviewing can be done from home by phone; the work primarily occurs in the evening with some daytime and weekend hours. Training and software will be provided. A PC and an Internet connection are required. Average hours per week vary from 5-20 depending on the work flow.

Registered Dietitian - Albuquerque, NM

Position Overview – Dietitian II:

This is the intermediate level position in the Nutrition Department of the Company. This position requires the individual to work closely with all EDTC Employees, Management, and Clients while supporting the mission of the Company to provide clinical and nutritional counseling services to those in need. Employee will provide nutritional counseling in both and individual and group therapy settings. Employee may be assigned to provide research on issues or topics as required by Clinical Director or Director of Nutritional Services. Employee may be required to provide meal plan management for participants in group therapy programs and provide close supervision of clients participating in such programs as needed.

Job Functions:

· Develop and help clients implement effective meal planning to reach and maintain recommended body mass index or other established nutritional or biometric parameters.

· Provide individual counseling and therapy to clients and/or families on nutrition and dietetics.

· Provide individual and group counseling on exercise and other activities to maintain healthy body weight.

· Lead Nutritional Counseling Program Elements in Group Therapy Program Sessions, including both Intensive Outpatient and Day Treatment Level of Care Programs.

· Assist Clinical Director or Director of Nutritional Services as needed in preparation of program materials, researching clinical treatment modalities, preparation of clinical session notes, etc., with regard to nutrition and dietetics

Position Requirements:

· Preferred: Master’s Degree in Nutrition or related curriculum such as human nutrition, nutrition education, foods and nutrition, or public health nutrition.

· Hold licensure and registration as a Dietitian by the Nutrition and Dietetic Practice Board of New Mexico and the Commission on Dietetic Registration, respectively.

· Demonstrate a specific interest in working with those suffering from an eating disorder or related diagnosis.

· Commitment to HIPAA Requirements and Company’s Implementation of such.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Willing and able to work as a part of team to achieve company objectives with regard to Client Counseling and Support.

Job Summary And Scope

The Clinical Dietitian provides overall nutrition care to patients. The Coordinator ensures the nutritional needs of the individual patients are being met and that all documentation as it relates to the patients nutritional status is complete and accurate. Also plans and administers activities related to patient nutrition care, complying with the standards established by regulatory agencies and the Hospitals. Scope of practice may include both in-patient (hospitalized) and out-patient (community/clinic-based).

Essential Functions

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs

• PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services meetings and workshops. 

• Adhere to all established systems and training programs to provide a safe environment. Complies with all OSHA regulations and other local, state and federal regulations.

• Maintain the privacy, safety, and dignity of each patient by observing client patient confidentiality and by strictly adhering to HIPAA laws.

• Maintain clinical productivity standards and accurate record keeping of daily clinical activities, including information for scheduling and billing.

• Monitor adherence to food safety standards.

• Provide excellent customer service to patients, clients and co-workers to ensure patient satisfaction by addressing customer concerns and needs.

• Maintain dietetic registration, state-required credentials and/or licensure and continuing education requirements.

• Conduct patient nutrition assessment on a population of lower acuity patients.

• Manage the development and implementation plan for nutrition intervention in accordance with the Nutrition Care Process.

• Provide appropriate and timely documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in a patient’s medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, plan, implementation, and progress towards goals.

• Conduct rounding to drive patient satisfaction.

• Assess educational needs and the presence of barriers to learning. Provide nutrition counseling for individuals and groups, taking into consideration any adaptations to teaching methods necessary to meet patient learning needs.

• Utilize assessment and evaluation techniques that consider the varied needs of age-specific populations as well as cultural, religious, and ethnic concerns.

• Evaluate achievement of learning objectives by the patient and/or family. Provide appropriate follow-ups in accordance with the patient’s treatment goals, referring patients for outpatient counseling, community, or home health services as appropriate.

• Deliver strong operational performance by executing regulatory agency standards and programs, continually monitoring operations, and completing assessments and necessary action plans to provide optimal nutrition care and meal service to patients.

• Work cooperatively with medical staff as well as food & nutrition services staff to ensure conformance to prescribed nutrition care orders.

• Provide education that ensures compliance with food safety, sanitation, and overall workplace safety standards.

• Provide appropriate and timely documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in a patient’s medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis, plan, implementation, and progress towards goals.

• Maintain clinical productivity standards and accurate record keeping of daily clinical activities, including information for scheduling and billing.

• Demonstrate accountability for the proper use of patients protected health information.

• Exhibit professional behavior at all times in all areas of the workplace by reporting to work neatly groomed.

• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
